A True Must Read!
Read... Read... Read, Read, Read!
The following essay by Shelby Steele: White Guilt and the Western Past
To be honest, Rush Limbaugh spent a good portion of his program Tuesday reading and talking about this essay. It is a marvelous piece of work and needs to be read and understood by all. The picture it paints of our country is a poor one. A picture of a country so weighed down by it's past sins and regrets that it can't do the right thing. If any of us we knew an individual who lived with such regrets we would encourage them to look at their life as a whole and judge it in it's entirety.
The amazing thing about our system and our Consititution is that during slavery we were violating our own laws. The injustice of slavery, on a national level was never codefied into our system. It had to occur outside of it. We as an American society had to strive to meet our own system's ideals. That was the true magic of the Founding Fathers. They created, not a system for their age, but one for an age to come. Despite their virtues and wisdom they could not meet the higher ideals of their own system, that was a quest for later generations. So never sit by while the ignorant and misguided label them as hypocrites. The Founding Fathers, warts and all, were visonaries. They were creating a system of government for another time. And 230 years later we are still living under that frame work.
Long live the wisdom of the Founding Fathers and long live America.

BIDEN for president;
Forces out of Iraq;
Well the race for the presidency is on, and I have to hand it to Biden for having an Idea, a Direction, and an Opinion. Unfortunately it’s a horrible Idea, disastrous Direction, and a tired old Opinion. It is different than his party’s line, and to his credit not poll tested.
But, splitting up Iraq has same result as if the US forces had entered Iraq with the intent to destroying everything and then leave immediately when the Iraqi army and government there had fully toppled; civil war would have ensued and the three sects (Sunni, Shi'a, and Curd) would each go to their own corners and fight the battle of determining borders. The Shi'a portion of the country then left to fall directly into Iran’s sphere of influence.
The current Administration thought about this possibly and that why we are locked into a nation building effort. The net result of Biden’s plan would be disastrous for America.
The Biden solution doesn’t leave the nation better than we found it. People left divided and fighting each other in our wake (read killing each other, Darfur comes to mind). The nation of Iraq was whole when we arrived. It may actually have been better to have left Saddam in power than engage in Biden's chop it up initiative.
The Biden solution doesn’t resolve terror state issues that we went there in the first place to address. The Sunni and Shi'a regions would likely become confirmed terror states almost at the start of any such plan. Or worse, one or both of these thirds could become lawless and a good home for Al-Qeada to restart training programs.
The Biden solution doesn’t unify the people Iraq but encourages segregation, class war, and racism. These systems don’t work, in most of the world you can actively identify on-going wars that have lasted hundreds of years for the same tired story, he doesn’t look like me, he doesn’t worship like me, and he has more than me. This is inhumane, and we should try not to create these conditions when we can (see the Imperial English for some good examples).
America is the right idea, “a melting pot”, a group of different peoples and cultures coming together under one flag, one language, to act as one for the common interest of freedom. Let’s not let Biden trap them in a Separatist system we know will fail. No one likes the fact that our government and military are still there in Iraq, but since we are there then lets take our time and effort to improve their situation, lets at least try to give them the idea that we know works; FREEDOM.

Big Oil or Big Gov't
The following quote I found on The Drudge Report :
NY Sen. Schumer wants probe into 'whether or not we should break up the big oil companies. Enough is enough'...
The probe I'd like to see, Mr. Senator Schumer, is one on "whether or not we should break up big government. Enough is enough"....
The whole situation with switching to Ethanol fuels came from the government. Crazy regulations about formulating gasoline came from the government. The lack of new oil refineries falls on the shoulders of government. The lack of new oil drilling, domestic "non-Islamic" oil drilling is because of the government. It looks like to me that big government is to blame of high gas prices.
"But, that's not true! Oil companies are gouging us for higher profits."
I have no doubt that we as consumers are being hosed by the big oil companies. But, as companies would do, if there is an increased demand, they would increase supply and thus increase profits. But we can't increase the supply of gasoline without new and more refineries and new drilling. The government doesn't want that to happen.
And here is the question you should really ask yourself: How much profit does an oil company average per gallon of gas.
The following statistics came from The American Daily:
Based upon a $3.00 gallon of gasoline, the average break-down is as follows.
Gasoline Retailer $.01 cents per gallon
Oil Company $.08 cents per gallon
Refining $.29 cents per gallon
Marketing/Distribution $.32 cents per gallon
Taxes $.59 cents per gallon
Cost of crude $1.71 per gallon (delivered)
Hmmm... Who is making the real money here? I could not find the origin of the statistics and the following from The Philadelphia Business Journal would seem to contradict The American Daily's statistics.
"In 1999, U.S. oil refiners made 22.8 cents for every gallon of gasoline refined from crude oil, which by 2004 had increased to 40.8 cents. Last year profit margins soared to 99 cents on each gallon sold, the Governor's Office said."
That would be Gov. Rendell of Pennsylvania office quoting those statistics.
The following comes from The Tax Foundation:
"Today, U.S. consumers pay an average of 45.9 cents per gallon in gasoline taxes. The federal gasoline excise tax is 18.4 cents per gallon while the average state and local tax is 27.5 cents. The vast majority of these taxes are levied at a flat rate per gallonÂregardless of whether a gallon of gas costs $1.49, $2.49, or $3.49. Thus, the effective rate of these taxes can vary wildly, from roughly 31 percent in the former case to 13 percent in the later."
The one thing I can conclude from all of the above is that the government gets a large part of every $3 bucks I pump into my tank. And so why in the world should they get more of it with a "windfall tax?" What as the federal government done to deserve more of my money? Spend it like a drunken teenager, is what!
It is time to break up the monopoly. Well not actually a monopoly, but an oligarchy. The ruling class in Washington must go. Republicans, bye! Democrats, Adiosamigoss! The courts, see yah later alligatorr! The Media, don't let the door hit yah in the ass on the way out! All of them must go, babies hiding in the bath-waterr included. You don't deserve my money. Not a dime.
So Chucky-Boy remember this, big oil might be a problem, but you are the bigger one. At least Exxon, BP, Shell and all those guys are honest abouttheirr motives. You actually want me to believe you have my best interest at heart. If you really did you'd read the constitution one day are realize you are in violation of that sacred document and step down.

I must be standing on my head....
.... because I feel like quoting Al Gore. Sort of. If you remember when he was running as vice president he made one of the more memorable statements of that campaign. "What's up is down, and what's down is up"
What on earth would drive me to remember a line from everyone's favorite enviro-wacko, the complete insanity around the issue of illegal immigration. Some "witty" observers of the society have asked when the phase "illegal immigrant" became "undocumented worker." What I want to know is when will it become foreign invader? That my sound "extreme" or "not compassionate" that is because it is. I have no compassion anymore for our so called "representatives" bending over backward to appease foreign nationals living in our country.
I watch and listen and am amazed at what I see and hear. Did you know that thousands of illegal immigrants have died in Iraq fighting for the USA? That is what one of these foreign invader supporters said on FoxNews this afternoon. He also challenged the host, John Gibson, to find evidence of foreign invaders voting. He said he would find none. Please. What lies!
Now a treasonous criminal named Nativo Lopez is on Lou Dobbs demanding that Foreign Invaders become citizens. As if it is their right to come here and become citizens. DEMANDING IT!!!!!!!! This man is a lunatic criminal and an enemy to America.
Yes, I'm angry. I'm angry not because I hate people from other countries, I'm angry because the rule of law and the truth is being thrown to the wind!
All of this turns my stomach. These people believe that anyone has a right to come to this country and become a citizen. My friends our country is doomed. We have no sense of who we are, thus no pride in ourselves. That is why it is so easy for many in this country to find evil intentions in any act by America. Americans side to often with other inspirations. Their ethnicity, their religion, or their politics, but too many people find no inspiration from the country in which they live. The country that has given them all of the above. A country that will disappear if we do not protect it.

Marketing and Politics
Sometime ideas will flicker in my mind, and like quicksilver, they vanish before I can put them into words. I mention this because I have been trying to put into words a opinion about how marketing has ruined our social discourse. I have never quite felt I could put this feeling into a logical discussion. Well I just read a column by Joe Klien of Time Magazine that, too this point, put that feeling into words. Click on the above link and have a read. It is a great observation of out our politics of marketing, polling, and focus groups.
Also hidden in his column, and probably unknown to him since he is a left leaning journalist, is the problem with most democrats. A former Texas democrat who was working for George Bush's campaign because he was a loyal friend mad the observation that Democrats view a candidates character by his policies. So, if you believe in what I believe in you are a person of high character and if you disagree you must be a person of low character. Funny, I don't think your average Democrat is a bad person because they want higher taxes but apparently some Democrats think I'm a bad person because I want lower taxes.

A take on Immigration
Here is a link to an article that Rush read on his show yesterday from the site The American Thinker. One of the reasons I really like the article is that I spoke the premise during a discussion after Jeff's wedding. Here is the link. Go read and enjoy. If we could get the powers that be to approach the immigration topic from this perspective then perhaps they would pass some useful legislation.

An American Party
A party without color. A party based on ideals. A party based on a written document. A written document which a country was founded upon. A party who holds no allegiance to people, countries or organizations outside our borders. A party who cares about Americans. A party that doesn't care where you are from, or where you came from. A party that doesn't care who your parents were or where they came from. A party that cares about who you are and what you are. An American. Because within our borders we have differences. Differences of geography. Differences of economy. Differences of opinion. Differences of race. Differences of religion. Differences of values.
But THEY don't care about our differences.
Outside of our borders were are but one people. American people. THEY would burn a white Anglo-Saxon Protestant manager from North Carolina and smile with glee. THEY would burn an unemployed black single mother of two from California and smile with glee. THEY would burn a Native tribal leader from a South Dakota reservation and smile with glee. They would burn a Hispanic Catholic priest from Texas and smile with glee. THEY would burn a Jewish teacher from New York and smile with glee.
Only we see the differences.
THEY see one people and those people are one enemy. American people. The American enemy. It is time we see ourselves as THEY see us. As one people. American people. It is time to protect who we are from THEM. It is time to embrace our heritage.
Our American Heritage.
We can be one people. If we want it.

Democrates and Liberals: Just say NO to being a Man!
Brom has indicated that there is a change afoot in America, a movement well over two decades old to a more Feminine centric society. The topic seemed to be a liberal hidden agenda, and that no one would dare bring out in the open, leaving us to speculate as to the seriousness of its proponents. But apparently "Feminization" of America is a Real and open movement now being defended in the nations top liberal Press outlets.
Update: More than one Book review panning this book on "Manliness", but neither with true literary challenges or critiques.
The book is a challenge to the progressive movement from academia, the stronghold of the left, so it is not surprising that in order to dismiss its ideas it must be belittled as out of date, out of touch, and as a cartoonish joke to be ignored by the serious student of society and human nature.
I would not be so quick to dismiss it. We may all miss "Manliness" when its gone.

Historically its just an OK picture about sheep herders.

Just like old times...
So in the Philippines the current president has quashed a coup and declared a state of emergency. Just seems like old times when you had old presidents, marching the streets trying to get their old jobs back. When commanders were holding their troops on camps so they couldn't protest against the current government. Back in the day when you could tell the legislature to stay home today, and oh, perhaps start checking monster.com for new employment opportunities. Ah, it's kind of a breath of fresh air in a stale day.
Current President

Maybe they should just decide leadership of the Philippines in a knock-down, drag-out, nail-gouging, and hair pulling cat fight.

Making a Stand on......
....What?
That's what I want to know. Exactly why is President Bush deciding to take a stand and even threatening to use the v-word "VETO" on the issue of allowing a nationalized Arabic company to control significant east coast ports? He doesn't take a stand on out of control government spending. He doesn't take a stand on increased federal influence in education. He doesn't take a stand on illegal aliens streaming across our borders. But he decides, according to current media accounts, that he is willing to use his first veto as president to make sure that this deal goes through. Is he standing on principle? If so please tell me which principle. Free Trade? Bah! What, freely trading our security over to foreign countries? That principle?
"Well your just an Islamophobe. You don't care that a British company is currently in control of those ports."
As if all foreign countries are equal. You're damn right I don't care if the Brits control the ports. If there is one country in the whole world I do trust it's Great Britain. Those ties are blood thick. Remember, it wasn't 4 Englishmen, 2 Scots and an Irishman who took out the World Trade Center Towers. A Welshman is not hiding in the hills of Wales threatening the entirety of Western Civilization with his fascist agenda of violence. All of those people were and are Arabic Islamic Fundamentalists. They are a threat to unalienable rights of freedom and liberty and to hand over control of some of our ports to a nation that, at any point, could be sympathic to their cause is suicidal.
And any President who thinks that it's a good idea has, at the very least, has lost his focus. And at worst.... is not worth mentioning.

Marines not good enough for UW!
Students have rejected a monument for one of the greatest Marine pilots ever, stating he didn’t measure up to their high standard. Others say no monument for another "Rich White Guy". I don’t know what in the coffee out on the Left coast, but this is beyond reason.
'Pappy' was a regular guy and a HERO of the first order.
U of W votes NO! to Black Sheep
Maybe UW isn’t good enough for American students and we should seriously look at revoking all of their acredidation!

An (old) New Name in News
An (old) New Name in NewsSo, if I'm watching TV at 6 p.m on a weeknight it will typically be either "Special Report with Brit Hume" on the Fox News Channel or "30-Minutes Meals with Rachel Ray" on the Food Network. Last week I came to learn I was missing a hard hitting American news program due to my habitual bouncing between channel 64 and channel 68.
"Where did you find this program? "
"CNN."
"CNN?"
Yes hidden amongst the Internationalist politically correct programming of the channel I so fondly liked to call the "Clinton/Communist News Network" is a program discussing real issues facing our country. And they are not being discussed in a "fair and balanced" way either. Illegal immigration, the control of our nations ports, and the suspicious and down right threatening behavior of Iran and China are the stories that Lou Dobbs, on his program "Lou Dobbs Tonight," will not let go. He is hard hitting and telling the truth about how these issues are endangering the country he loves and just as importantly about how our "government" is failing to address them.
The thing I love about his program is that he is not pulling punches and this throwing those punches where they need to hit: at all parts of our government. You get no extra sympathy from him based on the "letter behind your name." On his show the Bush Administration gets no love from Lou for it's cozy relationship with Vicente Fox and the Mexican Government. And he points out the Congress as well for it's priorities. Which in my estimation include: 1) petty party bickering, 2) calling members of the other party names, and 3) finger pointing.
This is the commentary our country needs. Lou Dobbs' concern is for our country and protecting it. He is not about pushing a party's agenda behind the a thin "non-partisan" veil such as people like Jon Stewart, Rush Limbaugh, Bill Mahr, and Sean Hannity. You don't have to look hard or far to find their allegiances. So, if you are in front of your TV at 6 p.m on a weeknight give the show a watch, you might find it different from the other news fair. I did and now I skip channels, 66 and 68 to keep the dial on 8.

Press shoots itself in the foot:
Its not the cartoon thats so funny, but rather how funny the Press looked on Wednesday morning after so many looked to the New York Post's Tuesday cover for their print leads. The New York Post is known for this kind of slap stick journalism, but the Times, Post, and others lashed out at the White House over this non-story.
I can hear the circulation dwindle.

James City County: Drug Tests for all School Students
Daily Press Editors Opinion on Drug Testing:
http://www.dailypress.com/news/opinion/dp-71091sy0feb16,0,1350851.story?coll=dp-opinion-editorials
The above article flies in the face of the Public School problems actually being felt across America and presumes rights that children do not have. With proper discipline the drug tests are probably not needed but the quality of discipline in our public schools has dropped to lowest of our time, and tests are necessary to get things back in hand. The Daily Press lives in a fantasyland where those involved in drugs are casual users who are non-violent and not involved in organized or gang driven crime.
The idea that alcohol is the chief problem is literally a smoke screen. Crystal-Meth usage and distribution in public schools has become an epidemic and the liberal-media wants an ostrich approach. This is just another group of hack journalists trying to prevent public schools from being able to discipline its criminally delinquent students. If you have checked out on drugs, why should the public be obligated to keep you in a class where you will disturb everyone trying to learn?
Oh and don't get me started about people's reputations. If students, their parents, and their extended families had a good fear of ruined reputations they might not start using the drugs in the first place. The idea that this Paper is trying to forward is that the rest of us don't have the right to criticize, impune, or restrict a habitual drug user in any way. Did I mention that using illegal drugs is a crime!
If the Commonwealth concurs with the Daily Mess, then its in the best interest of James City County to tell them to go-fly-a-kite. The state and federal government's educational quality is too low, and its focused on various liberal social experiments. Time to quit letting them use our kids as guinea pigs. The county's public schools could be 100% locally funded and change their status to Private. The people of the county could then demand and get exactly what they want in the way of an education system and keep the constant state, federal, and NEA meddling out of the whole process. Demanding that control of the school belong to the administrators of it and not the local press is a good start.

Feminists fail women when it counts; or follow up to Brom Bones
The Feminists are irrelevant and have been for some time. I don't take them seriously (either for Mike Adams fans), and neither should you. The following shows the how and the why.
http://www.spectator.org/dsp_article.asp?art_id=9370
How does the Media go on ignoring this one? Maybe they should be ignoring the Feminists instead, and helping the endangered and enslaved in this country.

People Are Electricity
I really don't know what the world is coming to these days. It seems as if people are losing faith in their fellow man. So much so, that it is all about looking out for number #1. While we should keep our selves, we should also not do it at the cost of others. It seems people are becoming like electricity and looking for the path of least resistance.
Guess what?! The world is not a simple place to live in. We all have to contribute and make our own way, without stepping on each other. But by the looks of it, stepping on others has become the accepted norm.
It is really a shame.
Everyone is up in arms over the Hot Coffiee code in GTA:SA and L.A. is looking to jump that train. Complete crap! They see it as a simply way to gain public favor and possiblty a little profit as well. Complete crap!

Words to live by...
I think this quote says a lot!

Virginia gets the right man...
http://www.roanoke.com/news/roanoke/wb/48157
Here’s a story being buried by the main stream media across America; DNA tests have proven the guilt of a criminal executed in the state of Virginia in 1992. Governor Mark Warner, ordered the tests, to set the record straight, although he and others were likely seeking very different results.
Democrats, Socialists, and anti-death penalty crews had geared up to blast Virginia for putting innocents to death, and make a new challenge that all death row inmates in America are guilty of nothing more than being victim of an unfair and bigoted system. Once proven convincingly, the challenge would have gone on state to state of every conviction conceivable in a full on effort to remove capital punishment from the United States. This might have been a key plank in a Warner presidential run, “the death penalty is unfair, and we cannot live with one single innocent person being wrongly put to death,” or some such nonsense. As the first Governor to check DNA posthumously, this would play big with the Democratic base. I can hear those tens and twenties rolling in. Those in California were positively salivating.
Hold that thought. Virginia’s Criminal Justice system was right, this guy was a devil, and he was so evil he denied his crimes and continued to mislead a nation with total crap published in Time magazine right up till his death. The system has been vindicated and the death penalty proven to be the right way to go. So, of course this was all over the evening news last night, and the Virginia Attorney General was interview on NBCs Today this morning, right? Er no. The silence on this Topic has been deafening. The media is most biased in what it chooses to ignore. Most people don’t even know what they’ve missed.

GM comes to Jesus...
The 5 step plan may work, but will the unions buy in or take this oppertunity to put the screws to GM management. Expect this to get bloody and sooner not later.
Upfront casualties are SAAB and HUMMER, both are targeted for sell off. Makes will also have to be reduced. Look for Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Buick as Brands that could possibly be elimnated before the end of the year.

Patents vs. Making a Quality Product
Being in the software development industry professionally, I find the current state of patents in the U.S. simply awful. In software development it seems that everyone is out to make a quick buck by strong arming other businesses with laws that were not designed to be a commodity. While this is America and we are all about the mighty dollar, I think that this is simply an out of date system that needs to be revamped based on today's material and intellectual state.
Creating a company that simply takes patents out on everything under the sun, only to stick it to companies that actually try to product progressive and innovative technology, is criminal. I understand the need for patents for some things but there is a line.
Companies would argue that the only way to stay competitive is to prevent their competitors from being able to build the same products as them. To the consumer this causes us to not look at the quality of products but rather the features of products. This was not the intent of patents. I would suggest that companies start making quality products rather than elbowing out specific features from competitors.
There is an article at businesses Online that covers this issue that is a good read. Their quote of TJ puts the whole article in perspective.
A man "has a right to use his knife to cut his meat, a fork to hold it; may a patentee take from him the right to combine their use on the same subject?" -- Thomas Jefferson
